Hickory Grove Elementary SchoolPreparing Every Student to Succeed Each Day
Welcome to Hickory Grove

The summer has gone quickly, and it's hard to believe that the start of the new school year is just around the corner. We are very excited to meet our new students as well as welcome back and reconnect with our returning families. The beginning of the school year is a fresh start full of hope and opportunity.

Our top priority is to keep students and staff safe while creating an engaging and responsive learning environment where students, teachers, and parents feel connected and respected by all. The teachers and staff at HGES are committed to creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive school environment where all students can succeed. Enhanced security is also in place to better secure and protect our school.

A district goal for the coming school year will be to improve student attendance. Our attendance practices and policies have been aligned to the Illinois State Board of Education Requirements and Illinois School Law. In doing so, we understand that some absences are unavoidable. Students will be allowed up to 7 days per semester as excused for illness, mental health, etc... Absences for travel or other reasons not excused by a doctor beyond the 7 days will be considered unexcused. Make-up work and credit for unexcused absences will not be provided. Please make every effort to avoid extended absences due to travel outside of the scheduled breaks from school. A missed school day is a missed opportunity for student learning.

We are looking forward to an enjoyable and rewarding school year, and hope that you are too! Please know we are here to support you, so reach out if there is anything you need for the start of the school year.
